Telephone: 01962 844465 (for table reservations)
The Restaurant
The Black Rat is a converted pub that still has its warmth and friendliness, but is now solely a restaurant. The food is all freshly prepared daily in our kitchen and could be described as ‘Modern British’. Where possible the food is sourced locally. The restaurant also has an allotment that will soon be up and running. If you are looking for a relaxed evening out with warm, friendly service then look no further.
The Chefs
The two chefs who run the kitchen are possibly the best chefs in Winchester. Philip Storey, who owned and ran The Chesil Rectory and Chris Bailey who has worked in Michelin starred restaurants such as Chez Bruce and the one Michelin star Zaranda in Madrid. Both chefs are passionate about food and try very hard to source local produce. The restaurant manager, Christien Hay, of The Rod Box fame, has come from the Peat Spade in longstock.

Book our private room for a party or business meeting
Upstairs at the restaurant there is a private dining room that can sit 16 at a push but 14 is more comfortable. If anyone would like to book it up for a private function then the chefs will be only too happy to work out a special menu for the evening. It is the ideal location for business dinners as the door can be shut for privacy.
Parking is available
You can also see on the map the two large public car parks next to the restaurant on Chesil Street. See our map for parking locations.
